Where there are kids, there are germs -- lots and lots of germs.

If you've got kids in school, you already know that when one kid gets a cold, it spreads like wildfire. According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, when one kid sneezes and doesn't cover his or her mouth, 100,000 germs can explode out of their nose up to 25 feet at upwards of 200 mph. Gross, dude.

Here comes PhysicianOne Urgent Care to the rescue. It's a fact that most kids just don't really care about learning the rules of good hygiene, so here are some handy-dandy tips from PhysicianOne Urgent Care that moms and dads can teach their kids to limit exposure from contracting infectious diseases like the flu and the common cold:

  1. Washing Their Hands - I mean thoroughly washing their hands with soap and water, especially before lunchtime.
  2. Get a Seasonal Flu Vaccine - It's not just for senior citizens. The flu can attack anyone at anytime.
  3. Hand Sanitizer - It's not the end-all to combat a cold, but it does help fight those pesky germs.
  4. Teaching Kids to Cover Their Mouths - I know -- easier said than done. Remind them that with each sneeze, 100,000 germs jettison out of their nose at 200 mph. There is a possibility, however, that they'll think that is the coolest thing they've ever heard.
  5. Encourage Your Kids to Keep Their Hands to Themselves - Yeah, right! Unless your kid is a germaphobe like my partner Lou, you might be in for the challenge of your life.
