Ten years ago, on a summer morning in Connecticut, all hell was breaking loose on three unsuspecting women.

Here's what I know. Sadly, the unthinkable happens on a daily basis. That said, there are moments in time that will always make my heart clench with pain, disbelief, and a hurt that never goes away. I think as a human being, it can be no other way. Even when you are not at all acquainted with the people that are part of a tragic piece of history.

With that in mind, I'd like to take a moment to remember and honor Jennifer Hawke-Petit,  Hayley Petit, and Michaela Petit. Three innocent people, just going about their business on the fateful day of July 23, 2007.

This Sunday marks the ten year anniversary of terror brought down on the Petit household and one of the most horrific crimes in not only Connecticut history, but in general.

Ten years ago when a father's world was turned upside down. Ten years ago when the Petit and Hawke families, as well as their friends, neighbors, and even people like me that didn't know them personally, were shocked to the core by the evil and brutality that two men rained down upon Jennifer, Hayley, Michaela, and Dr.Petit.

On this 10 year anniversary, I will not utter the names of the killers. I will be marginally comforted by the fact that they are serving life in prison.

My heart will revel in the fact that William Petit has found love again, remarried and has a son.

My heart will, however, forever be saddened by three vital lives that were horrendously cut short on July 23, 2007. Jennifer Hawke-Petit was 48 at the time of her murder. Hayley was 17 and Michaela was 11. I will always mourn for what the girls might have grown to be, and the joy they would have continued to bring their family.

Rest in Peace, Jennifer, Hayley, and Michaela. May we heal, but never forget.
