Police officers were notified when school officials found an "inappropriate comment" written on the wall at the school Monday.

According to the News Times, a comment had the New Milford High School staff concerned enough to alert the authorities. The article does not say what the comment was, but the police deemed it to be of "low credibility."

The fact that that term was used suggests a threat of some sort.

Prinicipal Greg Shugrue and Superintendent of Schools JeanAnn Paddyfote both say that they will investigate further. They say if they find out that a student wrote the comment there will be disciplinary action taken and the student may even be expelled.

It is a strange and very different world than the one I grew up in.  I understand these things cannot be taken lightly... I really do.  However, years ago something like this would not even register with the principal let alone the authorities.  The janitor would have been called to clean it off the wall or have it painted over.

I really think it's hard to make these kids understand the severity and seriousness of something like this.  It's in their nature to be rebellious and quite frankly it's in their nature to do dumb things.

They know and have heard of the stories around the country and even right here at home of these horrible school shooting, but for some reason it does not register with them.  Either way it was a great job by the school for taking it seriously and alerting the authorities.  Better safe than sorry.
