Antique Store in Bethel Forced to Close in Fire Aftermath, Will Hold All-Day Sidewalk Sale

19956200_10155624942898313_6927240175092499213_oIn the wee hours of Thursday morning, nearly 100 fire fighters spent three hours containing a blaze on Greenwood Ave. in Bethel.

With the help of three police officers crawling on their hands and knees, ten adults and five children were helped to safety. It took firefighters from Stony Hill, Danbury, Brookfield, Redding, and New Milford three hours to put out the blaze.

Bryan Shelley, owner of the Traveling Wilder Antique House, reacted to the story when I asked him how the fire upstairs will affect the antique store. He sadly explained to me that even though the shop wasn’t affected by the actual fire, the structural damage upstairs has made it impossible to keep the shop open. Bryan went on to say:

“Business at the Traveling Wilder Antique House, which is in its second year of operation, has begun to pick up; success is not found overnight. We have been forced to close due to the damage above the store but will continue to operate online and hope to maintain that momentum by being a destination for unique and eclectic antiques. We plan to reopen as quickly as possible and I would like to thank the landlords, the Staibs, for their support and my thoughts go out to them as they rebuild.”

The “Sidewalk Estate Sale”, which was planned prior to the fire, will be held as scheduled on Saturday, July 15, from 10am until 6pm, rain or shine! You’ll find that estate sale at 180 Greenwood Ave. in Bethel. You can also reach Bryan by phone at 203-510-8526. Travelingwilder.com and etsy.com/shop/travelingwilder
