Whether you're thinking of moving your family to Connecticut or you're starting a family and looking for new digs, here are some excellent suggestions thanks to NerdWallet. The factors that NerdWallet used were "Home Affordability," "Quality of Education," and "Family Friendliness." They crunched the data for 47 locations throughout Connecticut. Only places with 5,000 residents were analyzed.

The top five are:

5. Orange - Even though the median home price came in at $393,000, its schools came in at 9 according to GreatSchools.

4. Glastonbury - Glastonbury residents have seen an impressive 85% jump in median income since 1999. Even though they are geographically close by several Fortune 500 companies, they have been able to maintain that small town feel. The Apple Harvest Festival just celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2014 with a three day music festival along with a craft beer and wine garden.

3. Kensington - Kensington is a part of the town of Berlin which is only 15 miles out of Hartford, which makes this town attractive to the work force that commutes into Hartford everyday. The town is also on the New Haven-Springfield commuter rail line which will debut in 2016.

2. Trumbull - Even though Trumbull has the most expensive housing in the Top 10, it's location in Fairfield County makes it convenient to work locally or in NYC. Trumbull's housing value is near the top of the list because they also score a nine from GreatSchools.

1. Simsbury - This historical town takes the top spot because of the affordability of housing and top notch schools. It also earned at nine out of 10 from GreatSchools.

Connecticut towns also in the Top Ten were Weathersfield, Newington, Winsted, Portland, and North Haven.

Personally as much as I love New England and the beauty of the four seasons, it's becoming unaffordable for Mindy and I. As I grow into senior citizen age, I grow tired of the frenetic pave of this area.

When I retire, my choice would be to relocate to North Carolina where I've experienced friendlier people and a more affordable cost of living. Lake Norman here I come!
