Best Locations in Connecticut & New York to Watch the Lyrid Meteor Shower This Weekend
Are you a sky watcher? Do you find an inner peace when you gaze at the constellations and experience a shooting star in a clear night sky?
The Lyrids Meteor shower is the next celestial event which began on April 18 but won't reach their peek until this weekend. In a perfect world, the Lyrids can put on an impressive show with outbursts of 100 fireballs an hour, but Accuweather.com tells us not to expect that kind of activity this year. According to amsmeteors.org, the Lyrids are leftover particles from Comet Thatcher.
This year prime time for the Lyrid Meteor shower is from late night on Friday, April 21 to just before dawn on Saturday, April 22. The absolute best time to see the shower in Connecticut is between 4am and 5am on Saturday morning, April 22. If you've experienced a meteor shower in the past, you probably already know that extraneous light can take away from your experience. The darker the better.

- Lake Mohegan Parking Lot - 960 Morehouse Highway, Fairfield
- Wimisink Brook Area - Gaylordsville, CT
- White Memorial Conservation Center - 80 Whitehall Road, Litchfield
- Ward Pound Ridge - 6 Reservation Road, Pound Ridge, NY
- Candlewood Lake - Pick a spot with very little extraneous light
Bring a lawn chair or blanket, snacks, warm clothing, and your beverage of choice and you've got a Lyrid Meteor Shower Party!
