Brett Young and Lindsay Ell performed the U.S. and Canadian National Anthems, respectively, during the 2018 NHL All-Star Game on Sunday (Jan. 28) -- and social media users were not pleased with Young's performance. The rising star was roasted on Twitter for his down-tempo, slowed-down version of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Readers can press play above to watch Young's U.S. National Anthem performance (or press play below to see both Young's and Ell's performances). In his defense, Young didn't forget the words of the song, nor was he off pitch; however, viewers were less than pleased with his phrasing.

"Brett Young is clearly getting paid by the hour," joked one Twitter user. Another, referencing a hockey penalty, wrote, "Puck yet to drop, Brett Young hit with delay-of-game call." "Pretty sure the entire NHL All-Star game could have been played during the U.S. anthem," adds someone else.

Interestingly, Yahoo! Sports reports that Young's version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" wasn't particularly long or drawn-out when compared to some performances. He sang the song in about 1 minute and 50 seconds -- 10 seconds less than the over-under line for this year's Super Bowl National Anthem.

Also during the 2018 NHL All-Star Game, Chase Rice sang during player introductions, and Kid Rock performed in between periods.
