Popular NBC News anchor Brian Williams is in the spotlight these days, but not necessarily for any good.

According to Fox News, the NBC News anchor recently apologized for a false story saying that he was aboard a helicopter that had been shot down in Iraq during a conflict in 2003. In fact, it was a helicopter that was ahead of his that was indeed shot down.

Williams was on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2013, and falsely explained this story reported by Fox:

We were in some helicopters. What we didn’t know was, we were north of the invasion. We were the northernmost Americans in Iraq. We were going to drop some bridge portions across the Euphrates so the Third Infantry could cross on them. Two of the four helicopters were hit, by ground fire, including the one I was in, RPG and AK-47.

Now, we're waiting to see what exactly happens with Brian's credibility as a news anchor, the highest rated nightly news anchor compared to CBS and ABC at 6:30pm.

Mr Williams recently cancelled a visit to the Ed Sullivan Theater to spend some time on David Letterman's show, originally scheduled for Thursday night.  Fox anchor, Bill O'Reilly recently defended Brian on a visit to Jimmy Kimmel's show:

I do honestly feel for Mr Williams because I do have compassion for him as a news anchor, and you have to admit that people are enjoying the destruction of his career.

With all that being said, why in the world would you exaggerate such a story? People have given up their lives and lost their lives in such battles overseas, so why make up a story?  It is indeed a sign of disrespect for those who have fought.  We'll see what happens.
