If you're a resident of Danbury, Bethel, Brookfield, New Fairfield, Newtown or Ridgefield, you can take advantage of this household hazardous waste drop off event happening at Brookfield High School.

The event is being hosted by the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority and it's happening this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

So if you've been holding on to some of that hazardous household waste, pack your car or truck and drop it all off this Saturday.

According to the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority, here's a list of what you can drop off:

  • Paints
  • Stains and Varnishes
  • Paint Thinners & Strippers
  • Wood Preservatives
  • Resins, Rosins & Adhesives
  • Polishes for Furniture, Floor & Metals
  • Cleaners for Rugs & Upholstery
  • Cleaners for Oven, Toilet Bowl & Drains
  • Swimming Pool Chemicals
  • Fluorescent Bulbs
  • Pesticides, Herbicides, Insecticides
  • (including Lawn Care Products)
  • Flea Powder
  • Moth Balls
  • Spot Removers
  • Dry Cleaning Solvents
  • Lighter Fluids
  • Septic Tank Degreasers
  • Engine Degreasers
  • Waste Fuels (Kerosene, Gasoline)
  • Carburetor Cleaners, Brake Fluids
  • Transmission Fluids, Car Waxes
  • Full or Partially Full Aerosol Cans
  • Rubber Cement, Airplane Glue
  • Photo Chemicals, Chemistry Sets
  • Hobby Supplies
  • Rechargeable (Ni-Cd) Batteries
  • Camera Batteries
  • Thermostats, Thermometers

  • Electronics, Computers, VCRs

If you're not from one of the towns listed above, you can still take advantage of the drop off day, you just have to call 203-775-4539 ahead of time and pre-register for this event.
