Tick season is here and, if you're like me, you will do what you can to keep those things out of your yard. I know people who have gotten Lyme disease and now with that new disease showing up in the state, I'm more determined than ever to keep them out of the yard!

According to WPDH, there are some things you can do to lessen the chance of having ticks take over your yard. Here are their suggestions:

  • Mow and clean up your yard on a regular basis
  • You can use mice to take care of the tick problem - soak cotton balls with pesticide, Permethrin, and stuff them into toilet paper tubes. Mice will use the cotton to build nests around your yard, killing ticks in the process.
  • Get plants that naturally keep ticks away
  • Try to keep deer out of your yard
  • You can create a tick barrier - this can be rocks, mulch, or gravel used to line your yard.
