Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, it has. At least for your Metro-North morning and afternoon commute, that is.

If you commute into New York City on a daily basis you know how much you love that commute. Well, bad just got worse as Amtrak starts extensive repairs at Penn Station starting today, (Monday July 10).

According to patch.com, rail commuters who head into Penn Station and Amtrak commuters face an eight-week battle to get where they’re going. It’s going to be so bad, that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is calling it the, “Summer of Hell”.

Now, if you’re a Metro-North rider, you may not feel the burn as much as Long Island Rail riders, or Amtrak commuters, but you can almost bet that your commute will also be effected in some way shape or form.

See, the overall plan is to divert some of Amtrak Trains to Grand Central, while the repair work is underway, and you know what that means — more commuters and increased congestion. That will definitely make life more difficult for your commute from Connecticut and New York.

Once the Amtrak construction is finished, that doesn’t mean things will get better for Metro-North riders. The MTA is in the process of a $10 billion East Side access project that by 2022, is expected to bring some 160,000-plus commuters through Grand Central daily. So enjoy your “Summer of Hell”, because things are not going to get any better anytime soon.
