Long Island Sound has long been a source of entertainment as well as jobs for Connecticut. Makes me happy to know that forces in Washington are banding together for the good of the Sound.

The Connecticut side of Long Island Sound is home to so many childhood memories, and great times as adults. I lived for the summer days when my Uncle Richard would pick up me and my cousins and take us to spend the day at Sherwood Island in Westport. Many lazy summer days were also spent at Hammonasset Beach out in Madison, and of course Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk is legendary. I applaud the efforts of Connecticut and New York Senators and Representatives for working to protect the waters of the Sound.

A press release from CT Rep. Rosa DeLauro states the intent to launch a bill that looks to protect and restore the Long Island Sound. The measure would dedicate 65-million dollars for water quality and shore restoration programs, and more.

Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy said it best:

Long Island Sound is a job creator for Connecticut. It generates billions of dollars from tourism, fishing, and shipping for our state each year, and keeping it clean is simply the right thing to do for the environment and our economy. This bill could be a game-changer for Long Island Sound. I won’t stop fighting until it is signed into law

Representative DeLauro responded with:

This legislation is essential to future restoration efforts, especially in light of the Trump Administration’s plan to eliminate EPA funding for the Sound. I will work with my colleagues both in the House and in the Senate to pass this legislation and ensure that the Long Island Sound will continue to be a valuable resource for generations to come

"Save the Sound", now more important then ever.
