Connecticut Graduation Rate At All Time High

It's that time of year. You can almost smell the caps, gowns, and excitement. How are the students in Connecticut doing?

I don't know about you, but for me, it still feels like it was yesterday that I brought home my cap and gown, and got ready for graduation day at Danbury High School. We've seen some highs and lows over the years in high school graduation numbers here in Connecticut, but it looks as if we are on a healthy upswing.

In a story from courant.com, Connecticut's Governor Malloy says the 2015 graduation rate is over 87 percent, which is almost five-percent higher than the previous year. That increase puts the state high school graduation rate at an all-time high. In encouraging news the Governor told the Courant:

This is extremely important to me, important to families, important to the businesses of our state and our ability to compete for great employers. We have increased our investment in education and by doing so have paved the way for a brighter future for thousands of Connecticut's children and families.

It comes as no surprise to me that education is a key component of a strong economy as well as the gateway to a child's successful life. Here's hoping we can continue on this positive course in Connecticut.
