After nearly six years of speculation, Costco has finally got approval for it's store in Yorktown.

According to Lohud.com the project would see a 151,000-square-foot building constructed on the site of a former hotel and located between the Taconic State Parkway and the Bear Mountain Parkway extension. The project has been in the works since 2009 but faced community opposition and opposition from the site's previous owner.

On Monday night, after minor changes in the initial site plan, the plan was finally unanimously approved by the town planning board. The store which will be located at 3200 Crompond Road, that's between Routes 202 & 35, would be the only Costco location in northern Westchester or Putnam County.

The store is scheduled to open sometime next year.

A major selling point to the deal is that developer Breslin Realty will bring infrastructure improvements to the area. Residents and businesses can expect new sewer lines, road improvements and a sidewalk between the Costco and Strang Boulevard.
