Police say that a man was arrested in New Britain on Thursday when he donned a clown mask and rode around in his car near New Britain High School.

According to patch.com, the alleged suspect was in the passenger seat of a car driving around in the vicinity of New Britain High School. Because of the incident, the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Police report that two students saw the man in the passenger seat of the car with the clown mask on, a female driver, who was not wearing a mask, was reportedly blasting music and beeping the horn to raise attention to the clown.

After the situation had stabilized, a statement was issued by the New Britain Police Department:

Members of the New Britain Police Department responded to the school and searched the area for the vehicle. The high school campus remained in lockdown until 11 a.m. Police Officers were stationed outside the school for the remainder of the school day."

There were no injuries reported, and parents of the High School students were notified via the schools ConnectED Notification System.

Both the passenger with the clown mask and the driver turned themselves into police custody and are charged with second degree breach of peace, and both are being held on $10,000 bond.
