• Time for more "belt tightening" in Connecticut. Connecticut state agencies are being asked to trim their already lean budgets in the current fiscal year by an additional 5 percent in 2017. Governor Malloy has also informed all state agencies, colleges and universities of a moratorium on new hires and promotions.

• Two bears are dead. A bear captured on video acting aggressively toward a hiker in Burlington is dead. State environmental officials shot and killed the bear yesterday afternoon in Session Woods State Park. Officials say a second bear was killed Tuesday night when it charged at a Department of Energy and Environmental Protection worker.

• Scores on the SAT are down to their lowest level since the college admission test was overhauled 10 years ago. The College Board says the average score this year is 1490 out of a possible 2400, That's seven points lower than last year and scores are down on all three parts of the exam.

• Here's something "wicked cool." The company that made the hoverboard a reality is now developing what a Star Trek fan might call a tractor beam. Arx Pax announced yesterday that it has entered into an agreement with NASA to use the company's technology to manipulate satellites from a distance. "Beam me up Scotty" might not be that far away.
