Things you need to know on October 5.

Thanks to MetroNews Source for the following.

  • Connecticut's Democratic Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy say members of Congress extending sympathy for the shootings in Oregon means little when they refuse to act. Blumenthal is urging House Speaker John Boehner to call a vote on gun control before he steps down from his position at the end of the month.
  • Connecticut's current recycling rate is around 25-percent, which is below the national average. To help address that, the state is offering grants to Connecticut schools in an effort to encourage more recycling. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection grants can be used for school workshops, field trips or other things that encourage people to recycle. The maximum grant is for $1,500.
  • It's not even Halloween yet! The travel website Orbitz says October 5 through Oct. 12 is the best time to buy plane tickets for travel at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve. The folks at Orbitz say travelers who buy tickets during this time frame will get the best deals.
  • Time to dig deeper into your wallet. Disneyland announced yesterday it has raised the prices of annual passes. And they've added one that costs more than a thousand dollars. The new Signature Plus pass allows unlimited attendance to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park and offers discounts on some food and merchandise along with parking and unlimited downloads of keepsake pictures taken through the PhotoPass program.
