Things you need to know on August 4.

Thanks to MetroNews Source for the following.

  • Connecticut's U.S. senators are calling on the nation's largest sporting goods stores to allow FBI background checks to be completed before all gun sales. Senators Blumenthal and Murphy say they have written to Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops and asked them to voluntarily comply with their request. Connecticut law requires an FBI background check for all gun sales, most states do not have that requirement.
  • A lawsuit filed by families of Sandy Hook Elementary School victims against the estate of the shooter's mother is now settled. The settlement is with the estate of Nancy Lanza and the estates of 16 victims of the 2012 attack. Each of the families will receive $94,000 under the settlement.
  • piece of history that you could call "home." Frank Sinatra's six-bedroom estate on Lyons Plain Road in Weston is available for just under $9 million. According to the estate's official site, Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow once lived there. The home was renovated in 2010, but it still has that classic Hollywood feel, complete with a movie theater and a ballroom.
  • Now that's a cheap trip to the moon! Buzz Aldrin managed to spend just over $30 on his mission to the moon in 1969. The former astronaut posted his original NASA travel voucher on Twitter. The document says Aldrin claimed $33.31 in expenses during his lunar mission, mostly for travel expenses to and from Cape Kennedy. He also posted his original NASA customs form. Upon returning to Earth, he declared that he was bringing moon rock and moon dust samples into the country.
