It looks like we New Yorkers are closer to seeing legalized marijuana.

According to the New York Post, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo commissioned a report that was prepared by the state’s Health Commissioner, Howard Zucker, which recommends legalization. Commissioner Zucker spoke about his study in Brooklyn recently and said:

We looked at the pros. We looked at the cons and when we were done, we realized that the pros outweighed the cons and the report recommends that a regulated, legal marijuana program be available to adults in the state of New York, I will finalize that report soon and bring it to the governor.

This is the opposite of sentiments the administration had in past years where Marijuana was referred to as a “gateway” drug.

Believe it or not, one reason for commissioning the study and the change of heart is Cuomo’s opposition, Cynthia Nixon, according to the New York Post.

It probably won't happen in 2018, because the legislative period is close to ending.
