On August 7, Mayor Mark Boughton will officially declare Danbury a Purple Heart City.

According to the Danbury Patch, Mayor Mark will issue a proclamation at the dedication of combat wounded parking spaces at the Danbury War Memorial on Sunday, August 7 at 11 AM. You can thank Danbury resident, Lee Teicholz, who was the trailblazer for this event. Teicholz's dad was the recipient of two Purple Hearts during battles in World War II. Mayor Boughton had nothing but words of praise and respect for our war vets. He went on to say that our vets especially deserve public acknowledgement for the sacrifices they made while defending our country.

The State Commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, John Kwiatkowski will be presented with the proclamation by Mayor Boughton at the event. The Purple Heart is a medal awarded to the members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded or have payed the ultimate sacrifice in combat with a declared enemy of the United State of America. The following video shows the history of the Purple Heart Medal.
