According to the Danbury Patch, the man who led police on a high speed chase on I-84 on the 4th of July has been identified.

It started when a trooper approached a vehicle in the Exit 1 Commuter Lot in Danbury. When he reached the vehicle he noticed a man passed out at the steering wheel and narcotics and drug paraphernalia on the passenger seat.

The trooper then woke up Marc D. Debenigno of Danbury and placed him under arrest, but Debenigno allegedly resisted and started to struggle as he was being handcuffed. The trooper tried to use his taser but did not hit Debenigno.

The Danbury man then got back in his car and the chase began. He led police on a pursuit through secondary roads in New York and New York state police joined the pursuit at that point. He then re-entered Connecticut where he continued on I-84 and ended up crashing into a guard rail on Rout 7 south, just north of the Ridgefield town line.

Debenigno then got out of his car and tried to run for it. He jumped into a large swamp and troopers were able to find him and take him into custody. There were no injuries reported.

Lots were involved in bringing this many into custody: Connecticut State Police, Connecticut State Police K9 teams, dive team, a bloodhound team, Trooper One-helicopter, Danbury Police Department, Ridgefield Police Department, and Redding Police Department. The Danbury Fire Department Fire Department and CSP K9 teams assisted in the swamp.

Thanks to all who helped. I'm sure the last thing you wanted to do on the 4th of July is trudge through the swamp to take someone into custody. So it did make me think of this:
