Danbury Officer Hospitalized After Violent Attack In Germantown
According to a press release from the Danbury Police Department, a Danbury man has been arrested after attacking a police officer who was parked in his cruiser in a market at 38 Germantown Road.
At 11 PM on Saturday night (July 30), Danbury police dispatch received a 911 phone call reporting that a man was viciously assaulting a Danbury Police Officer. Apparently, 20-year-old Pierre Ellhayek of Danbury, paced up and down Germantown Rd. a few times before he approached Officer Joe Pooler's parked police cruiser and begun to kick the vehicle. Officer Poller stated that he immediately exited the vehicle because he thought that Ellhayek was looking for help.
Ellhayek then attacked Officer Pooler himself with strikes to the head and the side of the ear. A violent struggle ensued, and Ellhayek punched and kicked the officer several times in the head and body.
Officer Pooler lost his taser during the struggle, and was unable to get to his portable radio. Eventually, the officer was able to get back inside the cruiser and radio for assistance. Ellhayek continued to kick and bang on the cruiser while Officer Pooler was inside. Several backup officers quickly arrived were able to apprehend Pierre Ellhayek after a brief struggle.
Officer Pooler was treated and released from Danbury Hospital, while Pierre Ellhayek was charged with assault, assault on a Police Officer, interfering with a Police Officer, breach of peace, and first degree criminal mischief. He was held on a $250,000 bond.
