The Danbury Police Department made history this week by promoting their first female officer to sergeant.

The Danbury Police department promoted two officers this week, and one of them is making history as the city’s first female sergeant.

newstimes.com Amity LaFantano was sworn in Wednesday at Danbury City Hall along with Robert Conrad.

LaFantano has been with the Danbury Police Department for the last eight years. She's served in a number of different positions including a field training officer, an evidence technician and a recruitment team member.

She previously worked as a police officer in Newtown, and has received Unit Citations in 2011 and 2012.

Conrad began his career with the Danbury police 28 years ago. He has served as a member of the department’s SWAT team and as an assistant court officer.

The department released an official statement on the promotions saying “Both Sergeant LaFantano and Sergeant Conrad exemplify our dedicated men and women in uniform of the Danbury Police Department who patrol our streets 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
