UPDATE: According to a press release, the Danbury Police Department has been able to identify the mother of the newborn. She is being treated at a local hospital, but her identity has not yet been released. The Danbury PD has expressed its thanks to the public for your integral role in assisting with the investigation.

The unthinkable has happened in regards to an infant in Danbury. The Danbury Police are reaching out to the community for their help.

As an adopted child, I always implore young girls and women alike to know that there is a safe haven for them and their baby. Danbury Police are seeking your help to locate the mother of a baby boy found abandoned late Sunday night.

According to the press release from the Danbury Police Department, they got a 911 call at about 11:58 p.m. on Sunday (May 21) from someone saying that they found a baby near the Polla Supermarket located at 399 Main Street in Danbury.

Officers arrived at the scene and the caller directed them to the back of the Zaytuna Grocery Store, which is on 397 Main Street. The police found the newborn wrapped up in pieces of women's clothing.

The release goes on to state that the ambulance arrived and when the infant was checked out by medical personnel it was found to be a boy. The baby was admitted to the Neo Natal Care Unity at Danbury Hospital.

The Danbury Police Department's Special Victims Unit is investigating and they are attempting to locate the mother to make sure she is alright and whether she needs medical treatment or other services.
