Things you need to know on August 5.

Thanks to MetroNew Source for the following.

  • The city of Danbury is paying a settlement to a man who filed a brutality complaint against a longtime police officer. The city council has approved the settlement, with the terms not disclosed by Danbury officials. The claim was filed against officer Daniel Sellner. Sellner was fired in January.
  • A Danbury man is facing possible prison time after he plead guilty to a federal fraud charge. Prosecutors alleged Alexander Bergen stole close to $300,000 from investors in his online business. Bergen will be sentenced in October, when he faces a maximum of ten years in prison and a $500,000 in possible fines.
  •  Middletown police are still working a 30-year-old cold case. The hope is that modern science will help find a killer. On July 31, 1985, 18-year-old Lisa Berry left home to go for a run. She was found murdered in a wooded area a day later. A suspect was never found. Investigators say they've recently submitted evidence for advanced analysis, especially when it comes to DNA.
  • Kellogg, the world's biggest cereal maker, is going all natural. The 109-year-old company announced yesterday that by the end of 2018 they will stop using artificial flavors and colors in all cereals and snack bars. Kellogg says 75 percent of the cereals they sell in North America already are made without artificial colors and half have no artificial flavors.
