As summer is getting set to wind down over the next few weeks, local police remind you to drink responsibly.

According to the Putnam Daily Voice, New York State will be coming together with a national initiative to crack down on impaired driving from now through Labor Day Weekend.

Drivers arrested on DWI charges typically have a blood alcohol level of .14 which is twice the state's legal limit of .08, according to the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee. This campaign began this past Friday and will continue through the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Last year in November, some tougher laws were put into place for offenders with multiple DWI charges. Drivers with three or more convictions in 15 years can now face up to seven years in prison, and a fine up to $10,000!

Take it easy these last few weekends of summer and be safe, Putnam County.
