The weather this winter has been strange, to say the least. This past weekend, my family and I were out walking, enjoying the nice weather, and now it's snowing. So, to keep the warm thoughts going until spring is here, I thought I would share some of the pictures from one of our walks.

Sunday, we took the kids to Putnam Memorial State Park in Redding for a nice walk. We decided to walk the loop that has the historical stops. I love history, and it's interesting to read all the different historical facts on your walk.

Throughout the trail, there are signs that explain the historical importance of each area. There are even replica buildings in some areas to show you what the actual buildings looked like.

One of the more interesting signs on the walk explains a local legend about a soldier who returned from the war, and proceeded to live there, alone, in a cave. You can see where the stones kind of look like stairs and lead up to where he is believed to have lived.

They also have a Visitor's Center and Museum that guests can visit for more information. They are closed right now, but will reopen on Memorial Day.

In addition to the loop with the historical sites, there are trails that go off farther into the woods and other trails across the street with a separate parking lot. Plus, they have area for youth group camping.

The loop is a pretty good walk, and you get to learn some interesting facts along the way too. This is definitely one of our favorite places to go for a walk. The kids love all the different things there are to see, and, of course, the dog loves the walk too.

If you are looking for a good place to go walking once the weather warms up then you should head over to Putnam Memorial State Park. For more info, you can visit them online at putnampark.org.

We're going to explore more areas to walk as the weather warms up. Hurry up spring!
