The effects of the Sandy Hook shootings have reached far beyond the Connecticut state lines. The tragedy has even weighed upon the heart of Country music superstar Tim McGraw.

“Out of this tragedy a group was formed that made a promise to honor the lives lost and turn it into a moment of transformation,” said McGraw, in a press release. “Sandy Hook Promise teaches that we can do something to protect our children from gun violence. I want to be a part of that promise – as a father and as a friend.”

McGraw has committed to bringing some healing music and good times to area with his headlining show, A Concert for Sandy Hook Promise on Friday, July 17 at 8pm at the Xfinity Theater in Hartford.

All of the show's proceeds will benefit the non-profit organization founded after the shootings that aim to protect children from gun violence. McGraw will perform with special guest Chase Bryant, as well as some surprise guests who have yet to be named.

Tickets go on sale Friday, April 17 at 10am through Live Nation, Ticketmaster or Charge By Phone at 800-745-3000. General admission pit tickets and reserved pavilion tickets are $71.25 and $46.50. Lawn tickets are $31.25.

Sandy Hook is close to McGraw's heart, as well as the fiddle player in his touring band Dean Brown. They are both longtime friends of Mark Barden, a musician and father of a child, who was killed in the 2012 tragedy.

“I look forward to being a part of a night of hope and promise and music that will help continue the great work that Sandy Hook Promise is doing,” said Brown.

“We are humbled that Tim would do this for us,” said Barden. “Dean and his wife Cindy helped my wife and I through our darkest hour and helped buoy our spirits.  It meant more than words could ever say.”
