But as a boater myself, it's always important to remind yourself of some important boating safety tips. Here are 5 good ones to live by as you're cruising the lake.

Life Jackets
Each person must have a life jacket that fits properly - 2
Vessels Over 16 Feet
Must have one US Coast Guard approved Type IV throwable device - 3
Children Under 13
Must wear life jackets at all times, unless in an enclosed cabin - 4
Safe Boating Certificate
You must have either a safe boating certificate or a certificate of personal watercraft operation - 5
BUI - Boating Under the Influence
Operating a boat with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08 or higher is against federal law
