Giving Day. I love the sound of that. But what exactly is it?

Volunteering, giving money, paying it forward. All concepts that aren't always easy to put into motion in your life, but so worth it when you can.

By now you probably have heard about the nationwide movement known as #GivingTuesday which takes place in November. Now in it's fifth year, it is a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year.

Branching out from that concept, charitable organizations have adopted what's called a Giving Day to raise funds for non profits. Locally, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation has designated March 9 as that day.The hugely successful drive for charitable contributions in our state garnered more than $1.2 million last year for just over 400 nonprofits.

While March 9 will be the day of focus for the fundraising efforts in Connecticut, if you are part of a non profit the deadline to register to hopefully be on the receiving end is coming up quickly

FCCF has set Feb.1 as the deadline for nonprofits to register for the 2017 Giving Day. For information on both whether your non profit is eligible and how to register your nonprofit go to  FCGives.org.

March 9. One simple date marked on your calendar to lend a helping hand.
