The Miss USA 2014 pageant is this Sunday, taking place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Stamford's own Desiree Perez will compete for the title. Last year, Miss Connecticut 2013 Erin Brady was the first Miss Connecticut to win the Miss USA title ever, so Desiree wants to bring it home for the 2nd year in a  row.

Desiree's story is very inspiring. She found out she had a tumor in her jaw at the age of 7 and had to go through an intensive surgery to get a bone transplant. She almost didn't live. That's exactly the platform she's bringing to the Miss USA competition: bringing awareness towards serious childhood illnesses.

Desiree has a Venezuelan background and came to live in the States in 1998. She now has her own marketing company to help people start their own businesses.

Tune in to NBC 8pm on Sunday to see how Miss Connecticut USA 2014 does!

Go Desiree!
