Today marks the 241st Birthday of the United States Marine Corps. So what makes this birthday so important.

The United States Marine Corps is a branch of the United States Armed Forces, and provides protection from the sea using the resources of the United States Navy.

The Continental Congress first established the Continental Marines on November 10, 1775, leading up to the American Revolution.

Marines have played a crucial role in every military encounter we have been involved with. During the battle for Iwo Jima during World War Two, a photographer took the famous photo of 5 Marines raising the American Flag in victory.

According to nationaldaycalender.com in 1921, General John Archer Lejeune, 13th Commandant of the Marine Corps, publishing a reminder of honorable service to all Marine commands on the anniversary of the USMC birth.

Since then the United States Marine Corps Birthday has been honored by its members every year. Gradually, balls and banquets were added to add to the birthday celebration.
