New York Looks to Change Law for a More ‘Flexible’ School Year
If you live in New York State, how do you think your kids will feel about going back to school in August?
According to an article at timesunion.com, if your kids go to a public school in New York state, the current state law dictates that they can't go to school before Sept. 1. Well, guess what? That law could soon be changed in time for the 2018-2019 school year.
Lawmakers are calling it a more "flexible" school year schedule. It's not a done deal just yet, because state education officials are planning on bringing it up in the next legislative session.
Instead of the school year being counted by days, education officials are thinking about counting the school year in hours, which would give them the option of starting the school year before Sept. 1.
C'mon, moms, be honest with me. When would you really like your little darlings back in school after summer vacation? How does July 15 sound to you? Obviously, that's never going to happen, but do your kids really need two months off every single summer?
In Japan, summer vacation goes from July 20 through August 31. That's roughly one month less of vacation than in America. In fact, according to the financial website insidermonkey.com, there are 20 countries throughout the world where the kids are educationally smarter than American kids. Maybe sending the kids back to school a week earlier isn't such a bad idea.
