In New England, we enjoyed a mild Winter. Now, we pay the price in Spring. Time to be careful and aware.

I can't think of anyone who didn't grow up with Smokey the Bear saying, "Only you can prevent forest fires!" Well my friends, the time is now, and, sadly, some people still aren't paying attention.

According to WTNH.com, numerous brush fires have popped up in the course of the past few days. Coming off of a mild winter with not much snow, and a fairly dry spring so far, the conditions are perfect for fires.

The Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) issues daily forest fire warnings at CT.gov, and today, the warning posted is HIGH! Soon enough, though it could be very high. Dry conditions are raising the potential for infernos. People are being asked to be careful while grilling. And it should be a "no brainer" to not toss your cigarette butt outside anywhere.

Please don't forget that if you see something please report it by calling 911. The DEEP also provides these tips for staying safe and preventing fires, as well as information about Open Burning.

Stay safe, and keep the people around you safe as well.
