Yesterday I mentioned that my husband had built his own smoker a few years ago. He found a video from Alton Brown (Food Network) and decided to build one. It was surprisingly easy (for him, I'm not good at that stuff) and we had a lot of good barbecue come out of that smoker.

Smokers are very expensive. So if you are handy with these sort of things, why not DIY?

I tried to find the Alton Brown video he watched, but it is not up anymore. Not sure why, maybe it got too popular.

You can search Youtube for other videos of people who built their own smokers, just type in "flower pot smoker" or "clay pot smoker." My husband did find a post detailing how to build a flower pot smoker that is close to the way it was done in the Alton Brown video.
