It's going to get a whole lot stinkier with the massive widening project thats about to start.

Before I was "Large Dave," I was "Dave Bell"... I was a traffic reporter. I used to sit next to Megan Doll, Jim Sharpley, Mark the Shark, and Mary Scanlon and tell you about the two car accident on I-84 West in Cheshire.

Well, Dave Bell is BACK! And I'm here to warm you about traffic in my hometown of Waterbury.

It's going to get bad over the next few years. They're just starting a long-term lane-widening project. Basically from the Hamilton Ave-Brass Mill Mall exit (23) to the Austin Road area (25A) the highway is squeezed down from four or three lanes down to a measly two lanes.

I-84 is backed up during the rush hours EVERY DAY. So, they're going to add a third lane of traffic in that bottleneck area. To do this, they're going to squeeze the shoulders off, and do construction in tight quarters next to millions of speeding vehicles.

I feel bad for the businesses, especially Nardelli's on Plank Road, that are going to have to deal with this massive project in their backyard. This is something that should have been done in the 70s!

Well, at least the project is funded and is underway, we just have to bear with it and hope that these next five years go quickly.
