Over the past couple of years, financial analysts have predicted the electronics retailer's been on it's last leg. Now it looks like the end is near for the long standing Radio Shack brand.

According to ABC News and WTNH in New Haven, Radio Shack filed for bankruptcy this past Thursday with plans to sell around 2,000 stores to Standard General, a major shareholder of the company.

Sprint has agreed to open small shops in over 1,500 of the locations to sell Sprint products and services, along with possibly some Radio Shack branded merchandise. The wireless carrier will however be branding the stores with their well known Sprint name.

The company hasn't turned around a profit since 2011, and the closings will include the stores in our area, including Danbury's store on North Street. The rumor is the store will be closed by later on this year, but no definite details have been released yet.

It's certainly sad to see people losing their jobs in the local economy and we wish them the best in finding new careers.

Where else will I buy all my nerdy geek electronics parts and RCA plugs for a last minute event?  Sad ...
