It's a day to avoid the big box stores and major department store chains and support your local mom and pop shops

The city of Danbury and surrounding Connecticut and New York towns are doing their part to get the word out to holiday shoppers that the first Saturday after Thanksgiving should be spent shopping in small businesses.

Did you know that according to recent statistics small businesses account for 55 percent of the working population in the United States and play an important role in the country’s economic health.

According to newstimes.com, "Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton has issued a proclamation recognizing Nov. 28 as Small Business Saturday." By spreading the word about Small Business Saturday, Americans spent $14.3 billion with independent businesses in 2014."

So this Saturday and all during the Holiday Season you can  join other cities and towns across America and shop locally, support small and local businesses.
