Sad news came out today that the ailing department store chain, JCPenney, is closing 40 stores around the country, including one in the Hudson Valley.

The closures will affect around 4 percent of the over 1,000 stores around the country according the NBC News. Apparently the chain reported a 3% increase in sales during the Christmas season, but this clearly wasn't enough with the stock diving 2 percent.

The JCPenney location in the Hudson Valley Mall will close early April after over 30 years in business at their Ulster location.  No word has come on whether or not more locations will close in closer locations such as Palisades or Danbury. Hopefully the Hudson Valley location will be the only closure around the tri-state.

If JCP ever went under completely, where else would I buy my bath towels? They seriously have the best selection of home goods for things like that, in my opinion!

Remember that ex-Apple CEO who thought it was a good idea to completely do away with sales and specials at JCP....Yeah, how did that work out for ya??
