As you know by now Joan Rivers died earlier today at the age of 81. Over her 50 plus years in show business she became a classy, hilarious and totally legendary comedian who served as true inspiration and role model to not just all women — but all people. Joan Rivers was indeed a real incomparable piece of work, and a voice that will be missed.

I had the chance to do a live broadcast and interview with her back in 2009 when she was on a book tour. She was an extremely gracious person and loved her fans. We actually did the on air interview in a back storage closet at The Book Nook in New Milford. (It was her idea so we wouldn't have all the background noise). I found it interesting that a star of her magnitude would not only take the time to do the interview, but make that suggestion and stand in a cluttered back closet with a local radio guy. That's just the kind of person she was, and it wasn't just an act. She treated each person who showed up that day like they were the most important person in the room.

Here's a photo taken in that back closet:

Her daughter Melissa released a statement today about her Mothers passing and closed with these word...."My mother’s greatest joy was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon".

I found these two clips that show Joan at her very best as a host and as a guest on The Tonight Show...One thing you can say is she never stopped being "sassy".....
