Now that we can officially say summer is here. The air is warmer, the nights longer, and the rain, well, its aplenty! But there is another season that started on June 1st that you may not be aware of: hurricane season. Hurricanes are storm systems we all need to pay attention to. If there is anything we learned from the past superstorms, Sandy and Irene, it's that preparation is always key.

That's why Putnam County came up with an awesome idea- an APP that you can download to help you. We all know cellphones act as our life lines in times of extreme weather conditions, so any sort of cell phone help is wonderful.

Putnam County Cares has amazing emergency information in the palm of your hand and it's available to download on your smartphone either through the itu

nes store, or Google Play. MaryEllen Odell is the Executive of Putnam County and she says: "While I hope that we are spared from the loss of power, limited accessibility to gas and downed trees that have plagued the region in past storms, it is always a good idea to be prepared and plan ahead.”

An app on your phone is the easiest first step you can make towards preparation. MaryEllen also recommends having an emergency plan for you and your entire family, as well as some emergency supplies (fresh water and flashlights being big ones).

Check out Putnam County Cares on your phone and feel a little better.
