LabCorp, a medical testing laboratory with multiple locations in nearly all states in the nation, is handling a large scale cyber attack. The Wall Street Journal says that hackers try to compromise companies that handle patients’ personal information, to bring the companies down. Meantime what about our personal health info? It’s possible it was exposed.

With laboratory offices in Danbury, Waterbury, Mt Kisco Bridgeport, Fairfield Shelton and beyond, they process test results for millions of patients each week.

Their website says:

LabCorp typically processes tests on more than 2.5 million patient specimens per week and supports clinical trial activity in approximately 100 countries through its industry-leading central laboratory business, generating more safety and efficacy data to support drug approvals than any other company.

Suspicious activity was noticed by Labcorp as a result of “ransomware” the Wall Street Journal reported, but few details have emerged regarding how to know if any one of us should worry.

Becker’s Hospital Review tells us the company’s diagnostic systems were attacked, and that the field of healthcare is frequently cyber attacked. It's a very large target for cyber criminals. We’ll wait, watch, and keep you posted on this!
