Well it looks like one of the busiest airports in the area will be given so much needed love in terms of a complete rebuild.

According to the NY Post, Governor Cuomo announced a plan to completely start over, in terms of the terminal and surrounding parts of LaGuardia Airport in NYC. This plan says that an entire new single terminal will house all airlines and all gates to destinations across the country.

Currently, the airport is a hub for Delta Air Lines, and a focus city for American Airlines, plus it offers numerous routes for all other major domestic carriers too.

Right now, you have 4 separate terminals, not entirely connected to one another, making flight connections a nightmare. The NY Post reports that the new plan includes:

  •  One single new terminal that will be closer to the Grand Central Parkway, providing 240 percent more space for runways and tarmac space.
  • High-speed ferry service that will have boats docking at the existing Marine Terminal at the airport.
  • A state-of-the-art, post-9/11 security system that will be three times as large as the current operation. This will lower wait times considerably.
  • Roadways and jet ways will be completely redone.
  • A new Central Hall with new retail shops and a 200-room hotel on site.
  • Building the airport will create 8,000 construction jobs and 18,000 permanent jobs at the airport and beyond.

I have to say, that LGA is quite outdated, but other than that, I've always preferred it over JFK or Newark, based on the fact that it's much closer to Greater Danbury and Putnam County. The new single terminal and bigger aircraft space will certainly help the problem of delays.  Now..how long will it take?  .. We'll see about that one ...
