The New Fairfield Fire Police are warning residents to be on the lookout for a large black bear roaming certain neighborhoods.

New Fairfield's Fire Police are warning Bigelow Rd. residents that if they hear any strange noises outside their home, DO NOT wander outside to investigate until you take a good look from inside the house. Bears are always hungry, especially the big black bears, and they will go anywhere to find food like trash cans and bird feeders. You may want to shut down slapping steaks on the grill for a couple of days too. Don't let this happen to you.

DO NOT FEED THE BEARS! They are not your friends but they will put the word out on Facebook that you are feeding the bears and invite their bear friends over for some leftover Spaghetti-O's. Usually, bears will not attack unless provoked or if you're holding a piece of mutton in your hand. If you accidentally come across a black bear who's casing your crib, DO NOT ask the bear to take a selfie with you, instead, make some noise by yelling or waving your arms or even throwing an object at the bear. If you spot a bear, call the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection at 860-424-3333.
