Local officials and developers gathered in Brookfield to break ground on what will soon become Brookfield Village, a project that has been almost 30 years in the making.

Construction is finally underway just past the area of town referred to as the "Four Corners". Brookfield Village will be a retail, commercial, and residential development project designed to bring a much needed town center district to Federal Road. It'll even have sidewalks!

"We've never had an actual downtown, so this project is very exciting", said Steve Harding, a longtime Brookfield resident, and now the Town's State Representative.

The town will also be adding new infrastructure including sidewalks, street lighting, landscaping, and widening of the road on Route 7.

The master concept is to make this the "go-to" destination for regional shopping and restaurants, and to give residents a place they can finally call Downtown Brookfield.

Look for Brookfield Village to open sometime in late 2017.
