Danbury, Bethel, Newtown Roads to Close for 9-11 Tribute Ride

This Sunday, September 11, 2016 marks the 15th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the U.S., and for the 14th straight year, the CT United Ride will mark the occasion with a fundraising tribute ride through area towns.

The CT United Ride was formed shortly after the terror attacks in 2001 to pay tribute to the victims and the first responders who gave their lives that tragic day.

According to patch.com, the organization, which consists of more than 4000 riders, is now Connecticut's largest annual tribute, and has become the largest ride in New England.

The sixty-mile trek starts Sunday morning in Norwalk, and proceeds through ten other Connecticut towns before ending at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. Thousands turn out to show their support, and hundreds of police officers are assigned along the route as escorts and traffic control.

The ride does not stop at traffic lights or stop signs, so police are asking drivers to take alternate routes to avoid long delays. Intersections that the ride passes through could be blocked for up to thirty minutes.

The ride goes through Redding, Bethel and Newtown starting at around 12 PM, so here are the local roads that will be either closed or blocked:

• Georgetown: Route 107
• Redding: Route 58
• Bethel: Route 302
• Newtown: Route 25
• Route 7 (Danbury Road)

The motorcade lasts for approximately forty-five minutes and area traffic will be restricted during that time.
