Following a two month investigation a Mahopac couple were arrested on drugs and weapons charges.

Maheer Issa Jamal, 27, and 24-year-old Liridona Krasniqi were arrested after officers armed with arrest warrants pulled over the car they were travelling in along Wixon Pond Road near their home.

Jamal allegedly sold heroin to an undercover sheriff’s deputy on three occasions over the last two months. The drug sales were reportedly occurred at the front door of the suspects’ home while Krasniqi was present.

During the course of the investigation, officials develop information that the suspects had an arsenal of loaded firearms inside the house. A court-ordered search warrant for the home, yielded over 100 bags of heroin, a number of prescription pain-killer pills and concentrated cannabis.

The drugs have an estimated street value of three to four thousand dollars. Over $1,500.00 in cash was also recovered in the home, officials say.

2 assault-style rifles with high-capacity magazines and two 12-gauge shotguns were also allegedly found. One of the rifles and one of the shotguns were loaded. A supply of ammunition for all the weapons was also recovered.

Jamal was charged with three counts of 3rd-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, three counts of 3rd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, 4th degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of 5th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies, 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and one count of 4th-degree criminal possession of marijuana, misdemeanor.

Krasniqi was charged with 3rd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, 4th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of 5th-degree criminal possession, felonies, 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and one count of 4th-degree criminal possession of marijuana, misdemeanor.

Both defendants were additionally charged four counts of 3rd-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies.

The defendants were arraigned at the Town of Carmel Justice Court. The court set bail for Jamal in the amount of $50,000 cash or $50,000.bail bond. Bail for Krasniqi was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.

If convicted on all counts of the most serious charges, the defendants could face up to 27 years in prison.
