Late Thursday night (January 3) firefighters were battling a major fire at the Puppy Love pet store in Danbury. Thanks to quick action from a large number of people, all of the puppies are safe.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton was live on Facebook, and reported that the fire happened in the back of the store, not the area where the puppies are kept. Boughton reported that the puppies were rescued and brought next door to the parking lot at Stanziato's pizza and the new El Coyote restaurant, which just opened today.

Animal Control officers were on the scene placing the puppies, and Mayor Boughton reported that thanks to the quick actions of firefighters and first responders, not one puppy lost their life in the fire.

"Just a tremendous response from emergency personnel, residents, customers of nearby restaurants, everyone came together to save these puppies," Boughton said. "It's just a great Danbury story."
