A male student in Meriden, who wants to wear a dress to the senior prom, has been denied permission by the Board of Education.

According to the Meriden Patch, an unnamed male student has been denied permission to wear a dress to the Francis T. Maloney High School Senior Prom. A group of students have rallied their support by starting a petition on Change.org saying that this male student's right to express himself has been denied. As of Wednesday evening, May 4, the petition contained 540 signatures and will be delivered to Meriden's Board of Education.

The latest twist comes from an article in the myrecordjournal.com, which states that administrators from Francis T. Maloney High School have received no such request from a senior and claim that students can wear whatever they want, as long as it's formal. The petition was started by high school junior Jovanna Lynn on behalf of the senior who wanted to remain anonymous.

High School Principal, Jennifer Straub, told the myrecordjournal.com no one has approached her or any member of the administration regarding permission to wear a dress. The anonymous student claims that Straub told him that wearing a dress was a poor choice in judgement. Straub denies those claims wholeheartedly, which begs the question, Jovanna Lynn, what's up with you?

So, what's really going on? Is it teenagers using drama trying to get attention? Could it be a senior prank, or an experiment to find out if students can affect school policy through social media? What do you think? Your comments are always welcome!
