So, each winter my wife comes across some type of old wives tale and puts it to the test. I call her "My Myth Buster." This year it's the Dawn dish washing liquid, rubbing alcohol and warm water ice melt challenge.

Last year it was the "Frozen Bubble Challenge". The myth was that if you blew bubbles in single digit temperatures, it would freeze in a matter of seconds. We'll we did it, and yes it actually worked. Conclusion: Myth Confirmed

So last night, this year's myth was put to the test. The idea is to mix a half gallon of warm water with 1 teaspoon of Dawn and 1 tablespoon of rubbing alcohol and pour it on the icy surface.

Now, no where was it stated if you pour the magic liquid on before or after the freeze, so we opted to do it after. This is actually, a fairly big detail in busting or not busting this myth. Now it seems to make more sense to pre-treat, but never the less would it work?

After checking a few times last night and again today this was my wife's official statement:

"My conclusion is that 12 hours after application, the steps seem like the ice has a dullness to it, I ended up putting some sand to make them safer. Maybe the key would be to put the mixture on before snow and ice." Conclusion: Inconclusive

So I think to be fair this myth has to be re-tested by pre-applying the mixture before the freeze. So stay tuned and connected and I'll keep you updated on "My Wife, The Myth Buster."
